Here I am...
I am here to share my stories and recipes with special unpublished content just for subscribers. Every month I will send you essays, articles and of course recipes. I've got a million of 'em.
Changes are fun.
Welcome to Eating the Neighbrhood.
I spent the last 40 years working in my kitchens and playing in bands, and all the while I kept notes. Now, after that long run I can really take the time to tell my stories. I hope you will join me.
First of all, much to your dismay I’m sure, I have no intention opening another restaurant. I am happy getting my rocks off cooking Pop Up dinners at friends restaurants. I am also back doing cooking class demonstration dinners at the new Capital Cooks in Albany, NY. I also manage my line of sauces and seasonings.
Among all of my side hustles, my favorite is is hosting at least 5 immersive tours of Sicily and Central Italy every year. It has truly inspired me in so many ways. Hanging out with some of Sicilian story teller friends made it opened my eyes. I too am a story teller.
Building a community
As New World Home Cooking and New World Bistro Bar were truly community restaurants, I want to build this into an Eating the Neighborhood Community. The world is a big neighborhood of ideas. As I share with you I hope you share with me. Let’s build this into a community who, aside from loving food, also loves to understand the why’s of food. How is it made, what is its history, what are its effects on my body and the people and environment of the world? We will delve into my opinions on how to shop smarter, how to avoid being suckered into the maelstrom of processed food and how to push back against the politics and BS that drive our food culture. I may be against the grain sometimes, but so is my food and that is why you like me, right? When I did my PBS series, I was dubbed The Opinionated Chef. I still am.
